What is a "Friends" organization?

Friends of all National Parks assist the National Park Service with volunteers, financial resources and coordinated projects to advance the mission of the National Park.   Usually, Friends are headquartered near the Park they support but reach all who wish to visit, volunteer or provide resources to the Park.

The Friends of MAPR-LA are headquartered in Los Alamos, New Mexico.  The hub of the Manhattan Project was situated in a remote region of northern New Mexico and was very secretive with limited access to the public.  Los Alamos grew from that secure city to the home of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, a premier National Laboratory that continues to supoort the safety and security of the United States.
